250cc CVT Performance Package Level 2

Dr Pulley products are some of the best on the market today!
This BPNW CVT performance Level 2 package comes with a Dr Pulley variator, fan plate, center dowel pin, a set of six 23x18 Dr Pulley slider weights, and blue, yellow or red main clutch spring.
Dr Pulley Variator:
The steep angled ramp plates in the Dr Pulley variators allow for faster and smoother engagement at all speeds, and allow lighter weighted sliders to fully extend to make the most of your CVT system. Longer channels create a more aggressive acceleration profile compared to stock variators.
The Dr Pulley variator comes with the variator, fan plate, spacer washers, and center dowel pin. Rollers or sliders not included.
Note: for most vehicles we do not recommend installing the spacer washers as it can result in a loss of top speed.
The Buggy Parts NW team highly recommends the Dr Pulley line and uses them in our own vehicles.
Buggy Owners: Most popular choices (and why!)
- 13g: For those who want maximum low end power for climbing and acceleration and do not care about top speed. Works best with the stock or blue main spring. Aftermarket CDI encouraged to allow for more RPMs.
- 15g: For those with a decent amount of hills to climb or want much better low end power without sacrificing significant top speed. Works best with the blue or yellow main spring. Aftermarket CDI a good idea.
- 17g: Great all-around weight for a mix of hills and flat trail riding. Works best with the yellow or red main spring. Aftermarket CDI worth considering.
- 19g: For mostly flat ground trail riding with occasional hills. Some low end gain, excellet top speed retention. Works best with the yellow or red main spring. Aftermarket CDI worth considering.
Note: Using Slider weights that are at the lower end of the weight scale can be too light to overcome the main torque spring tension (expecially wih the stronger performance main torque springs) before hitting the RPM limiter in the stock CDI (spark ignition unit). This can result in less top speed. You can typically get around this using a performance CDI unti with a higher RPM ceiling.
Spring Choices and Information:
- Black: Low/midrange spring tension. Stronger than the stock main spring. Ideal for flatter ground or to give a small boost to transmission responsiveness. Best choice for scooters looking to upgrade the spring (vs the other main springs) as it will keep overall RPMs lower than the other springs.
- Good for all 250cc buggies and works well with lighter variator weights when you don’t want to lose top speed from hitting the RPM limiter in the stock CDI.
- Yellow: Midrange tension spring that works best with CF250, Yamaha 250/260/300, Linhai 260/300 based motors. It does not fit well to the CN250 motor found in most all 250cc buggies with forward / neutral / reverse gearing. If your buggy does not have high and low forward gearing, please choose the black or red spring instead.
- The yellow spring improves transmission responsiveness and “downshifts” the CVT more quickly than the stock or black spring, getting you back into the lower transmission gear ratio faster for more power when you get back on the throttle. Also helps with acceleration.
- Red: Higher tension spring that works with all 250cc buggies based around the CN250 and CFmoto 250 engines, as well as CH250, Yamaha 250/260/300, Linhai 260/300 based motors.
- The high tension red spring helps improve low speed power and climbing ability, as well as making the transmission much more responsive when letting off the throttle. It will quickly downshift the CVT to get you back into the low gear ratio when cornering or slowing. Works best with 17g or heavier weights for most applications, but can be also be advantageous when used in a Rock Crawler setup when trying to maximize low end power.

For Buggy owners, the 231801 Clutch and Variator fits all buggies using a CFMoto 250 engine with a high/low forward transmission such as the Hammerhead 250ss and Joyner Sand Viper 250 use this motor. Most all other 250cc buggies use the CN250 motor and use the Dr Pulley products 241801.
For Scooter owners, please make sure to compare the physical dimensions of your stock variator with the information below. Some CFMoto V3 and V5 engines use CN250-sized components, so make sure to order the correct product.
The CFMoto 250 (231801) version of this product will work with the following brands (and more). Please note the information above regarding main spring choices and compatability:
