Replacing the Coil Wire

Introduction:

This tutorial will demonstrate how to change the coil wire on your buggy. For the purposes of this guide, the coil on a 150cc GY6 motor buggy was used. The principle is the same on a 250cc buggy, but the coil may be in a different location depending on the model of your buggy.

Click your engine type to find coils to use in this tutorial for your 150cc or 250cc buggy.

Tools and materials required:

Philips head screwdriver.

Replacement Coil.

Coil Change Process:

1. Detach the spark plug cap from the spark plug. Trace the spark plug wire back to where it terminates - there should be two wires connected at the other end. This is the coil.

Note: The coil on some 250cc buggies is located inside the electrical box. If this is the case, remove the box cover to access.

2. Disconnect the two wires from the coil. Note the green tab on one of the coil electrical connections.

3. Remove the screw holding the coil to the engine frame.

4. Install new coil in the same place as the old one using the screw you removed in Step 3.

5. Reattach the wires to the coil terminals. Green goes to the green terminal and yellow/black (or black) to the other one (assuming your buggy has the standard wiring setup!).

6. Press the new spark plug cap firmly into place over the spark plug.

7. Installation is now complete. Start the buggy and enjoy your new performance coil!
